They’re already trying to finalize rules, complete process do previously passed initiatives can be nailed down. The government can be very slow, and that’s a good thing for stability and fairness. It’s especially good to reduce the promised dumpster fire of the next four years.

Is there really anything he can start at this point that would have lasting effects? Going hog wild with shenanigans may be satisfying but not likely to do anything more than create headlines

  • Could even be as simple as a savings account. We’re all used to those paying a negligible amount of interest but there are a few high yield ones that may be worth it.

I started keeping more of my emergency fund in savings once I found a high yield choice, although it just dropped to 4.1% so I don’t know. These may have more constraints when you’re just starting though ……

But I really wanted to stress the above point of automatic savings. It’s really helped me to not spend, when I automatically put a little aside so it’s not even in my checking account to spend. Forced savings.

  • Maybe kids are too short sighted to see the risk, but who says they don’t do that? Among the stupid things I did as a kid was try to turn any tube into a gun/cannon/firework mortar, and hold it in my hands to aim and launch. We even had the benefit of my grandfather losing a couple fingers as a cautionary tale, that we completely ignored. If something happened, could you really call that an accident?

Or the time we were playing with fireworks …. In a barn full of dry hay? I don’t know how my grandfather let us live after that one

…… but there’s a threshold of stupidity where you really can’t call it an accident. I’m happy to have survived in one piece all too many bouts of stupidity but the adult me wouldn’t call it an accident if something happened

  • I his whole idea is awfully reminiscent of a certain political party insisting ACA is bad and needs to be repealed? Why? It’s bad? What are you going to do instead? We have a concept.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with the idea but yes there needs to be something do do with criminal offenders as either punishment or protecting civilization from repeat offenders. There needs to be some way for offenders to regret their actions or some opportunity to re-think their choices. Reforming civilization to address those who are in actual need is the first step, as is redirecting away from prison where you can, but it’s nowhere near sufficient. Way too many criminals are actual criminals
