I’d say a fair idea is to host your own personal website with your resume, if you’re capable and/or want to learn. There are often examples you can base your portfolio on.

I’d recommend reading Orwell’s earlier works (which might or might not be public domain in the US, but is in Canada, Australia and parts of the EU). Like “Down and Out in Paris and London”. Nothing at all like 1984 or Animal Farm, but still really good.

As I mentioned in another comment, the translations in public domain are often not as good as modern ones. They might shy away from certain things/censor stuff (or in the case of The Count of Monte Cristo, just completely ignore large parts of the book), and either way they use more archaic language that usually doesn’t flow as smoothly. Of course there are exceptions to this, but this is my general impression. Though, to be honest, I didn’t like Crime and Punishment that much either haha. I didn’t understand why people saw it as one of the greatest books ever written.

It’s great, but the translation in public domain is not as good as the one by Robin Buss in recent years. I think some translations even ignore large parts of the book, e.g. the opium-smoking harem part. That’s the general issue with translated foreign language books from the 1800s/early 1900s.

Lol. An e-Reader was actually one of the best purchases I’ve done. Started reading waaaay more than before. Also great that one can start digesting all those old out-of-copyright ebooks from like standardebooks.org, on a screen that resembles paper. I can never read a book on an ordinary screen.

I recommend MComix for reading on Linux. I only use it on the PC, but nonetheless it’s great.

Yeah if the library supports Overdrive, it’s possible. I’ve used it and it seemed to work fine.

No ads. Easy to buy. It you’re really concerned about privacy, just flash KOReader on it which is an alternative backend. The easier alternative is to never connect to the WiFi and manually transfer ePubs to the device through Calibre.

Buy a Kobo, never connect it to WiFi. Or flash KOReader on it. Either way much better than the alternatives.

If you offend the royal family you can get punished. There was a case some year back about a rapper that sought asylum in the Netherlands or Belgium I think, as he risked imprisonment in Spain due to his song lyrics criticizing the royal family. It’s crazy to me that one could seek asylum fron an EU country in a different EU country

Dystopia. Is this really common in the U.S? Both RTO-mandates and this “coffee badging” as a way to get around it? My company in a different country has a policy of 50% WFH, but nobody cares and I sit at home the majority of the days. Here it seems like WFH is here to stay.

It worked fine in my current environment, but not with sudoedit no. Can’t remember exactly why, might look at it again. It worked for you just by setting the default editor variable?

I had a problem where even if I tried to set the default editor to vim, it’d still not use my lazyvim setup and I never figured out how to fix it.

Not everything needs to have a “point”. Sometimes just making things for fun can be enough of a point in itself.
