I do like the idea of getting an x gender marker on my official id, as that also kinda feels like the “none of your fucking business” marker. It moves you closer to gender being just a social factor. The non-specificity working in its favour there. I won’t change it because there is no option to do it selectively, and having a passport with an x is really inconvenient.

I feel like gender and even sex at this point is almost fully obsolete. Really the only reason to keep using them as constructs is because they are being used as constructs, and that needs to be resolved first. And yeah, there’s a lot of other social classes and constructs that need to be dealt with. There needs to be an overarching change, not just “let’s not use gender anymore but essentially keep everything the same”

This is one of the first where I struggled to read it correctly. I think the colours are making the effect worse here.

However, mailbox can still be encrypted with pgp, and has some built in supports which make this easier.

One problem I had with proton/tuta is that you cannot use a third party app due to the encryption, which you can with mailbox. A problem I have with mailbox is that it does not support fido2 for login or 2fa, which could be a security concern.

I don’t think it would be anymore. Modern compilers are really really good at what they do, and often manually optimizing(writing assembly yourself) makes programs slower. So unless you are very good at assembly, I would just trust the compiler.

The poor get poorer and the rich get richer because of the economical system we live under, not because of the banking industry. Crypto isn’t going to solve that.

I agree that banks are not to be trusted, but a blockchain hasn’t proven to be a safe option either.

You also just skipped over my comment. I take that means that you acknowledge that crypto is extremely wasteful and would never scale unless gigantic changes were made to how it functions?

Please do remember that the banking industry provides banking for the entire world, instead of ~ten thousand people. It does cost a lot of energy, yes, but the energy per person is far less than with any cryptocurrency.

They could, and we couldn’t stop them, but I think they legally couldn’t use content from other instances or even from users from other instances. Not that that will stop them, of course.

Is that legal? When you sign onto a proprietary platform you usually sign away your rights, but with lemmy this isn’t the case, so scraping your data to use to train AI would violate copyright laws, right?
