It’s almost comical to see Blinken’s big smile and both Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers’ long faces.

Both being equally unhappy hopefully means they’re onto a fair compromise.

Jeyhun Bayramov’s face (right) seems to show both a straight face and a discrete smile, depending on how you look at it.

Now I understood your comment. Indeed, it seems so. It is a rather historical moment as the two nations are now free to negotiate a settlement without getting any foreign powers pursuing trivial interests in the area (hopefully Turkye will mind it’s bussiness as well). Being both backed by the West now really helps, and it really shows how Russia is not actually a stabilizing factor, as Moscow likes to brag, but rather a destabilizing one.

Otherwise, it could have already pushed for a settlement itself already since the '90s, without sending troops in the area.

I am hopeful, as this could lead both countries on actual collaboration and development, which ultimately benefits their ordinary citizens.

feels like a long tail of russia’s invasion of ukraine–as i recall, they were heavily involved in the last round of peace talks and still(?) have peace keepers in artsakh, but ukraine has really reduced their standing.

Okay, sorry for the delayed answer. It seems Russia actually tried to get some peace talks going, but they failed. Nevertheless, given the war in Ukraine, Russia lost its credibility as a force, so I think it was natural for both sides to call another party to mediate talks.

Yes, they do have peace keepers, but they cannot do anything against the blocade tactics employed by Baku
