I’m looking for channel recommendations on youtube and if anybody has any good ways to discover good content that is of interest without having to go back to the youtube recommendation feed?

I no longer use the youtube recommendation feed. There was a time not too long ago when I realised the mind shatteringly destructive nature of it. I found this community as part of my search to escape big tech. However, I do still choose to use some big tech when it can be of benefit to me. I feel much more in control now. Using a VPN, linux and freetube allows me to use youtube instead of them using me.

The youtube recommendation feed used to allow me to find new content, every one in a million videos anyway. But now I refuse to use it. So, any channels you would like to share? Any ideas on how to find new content without having to go back to youtubes recommendation feed?

    I subscribe to enough channels through RSS to the point where I have too many videos to watch, honestly. Just by paying attention to other people’s recommendations through threads like this, videos friends send me, crossover videos between channels, and looking at the channels featured by the channels I already watch was enough to get my feeds to their current state.

    KBash and Jason Graves are my current favorites. Highly recommended if you’re interested in video essays on retro and obscure video games.
