Is there any research on how effective of a prevention technique this is? Jail alone is an ineffective crime prevention for humans, I wonder if it’s different for bears.
Good question. I noticed that there isn’t actually a citation for the article’s current claim that the “premise is that extended captivity would create a sense of danger for the bears so that they will be reluctant to approach the town”; one of the cited articles does say that bears are held for up to 30 days but it doesn’t say why.
