Download the wrong app, use the wrong OS, attempt in any way to reclaim your privacy, and all of a sudden you can’t be authorized to open your own banking app because of some bullshit “security” message. What option does that leave you? Either become a hermit and reject all technology with whatever cost that has for you, especially in a decade or two as technology transitions to something completely mandatory for everyone, or fall in line and use everything the way they intend you to.

This in turn has made people to create a shit ton of garbage articles and blogs that say a ton while saying nothing, so even if you used a new search engine with the funding of Google but the algorithm of back then it would still be shit probably, because the volume of shit on the internet has now reached a level where finding anything in it is impossible.

The explosion of AI has come right at this moment where search engines have been lobotomized and gives people an option to be able to find things again, which is also another factor contributing to the profits of the AI companies, but even that is limited to what an LLM can average out from the totality of information that it has been fed and has the obvious danger of making stuff up and treating its biased training data as truth.

The focus on discoverability is a very good decision imo, if we ever want the average person to be using FOSS Android apps and Google Play to have a stronger competition then the repository should be able to recommend apps to people who don’t know about them and aren’t nerds enough to go looking for alternatives when their adware from Google Play kinda gets the job done

I wish I could give you a magic trick but the reality is that under capitalism, if you’re not lucky enough to be born into riches or have powerful connections, then you’re pretty much stuck being a wage slave. There is no real alternative to selling someone your labor either for a 9-5 work or multiple part times etc. The only real way out of this is systemic change.
