We have a working infrastructure. It’s open source. Please adopt.

Technology@beehaw.org•Journalists convinced a AI Vending Machine Things to give them free stuff like a PS5
9·9 months agoThey’re absolutely trying to find use cases for their “solution”.
I haven’t used a vending machine in years (except in Japan). And so I for one welcome AI vending machines so I can fuck with them and get free stuff. Or until some vandals break shit.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux is awesome at home, but aren't y'all forced to use Windows at work?
81·9 months agoThinkpads running Linux for the staff.
We use open-source. Our own on-prem servers running Linux. A lot of our software is also open source. Our git, our office suite, our video and chat… All open source.
We just got rid of our Google Cloud connections a few months ago, but we’re still reliant on aws, cloudflare, etc.

8·10 months agoI’m curious how much internet traffic gets lost when something like ChatGPT gets taken down.
Like, all those bots…how will they post garbage?

I got more folks into Linux using Reddit than I have anywhere else.

13·11 months agoDoesn’t the UK require that shit now?
And I know a bunch of US states require it when you stumble on a tit.
Either way, VPNs making bank right now.
I was obsessed with Game Pass during the start of the pandemic. There was a dozen games I wanted and I could get PC Game Pass for like $30 for six months, versus buying a single game for $30.
Then Steam Deck came out and suddenly all my money went back to Steam.
Which one? Xbox? PC? The Ultimate Edition?
Ah just cancel it all
The same as Rush Limbaugh. Nobody cares.

Technology@beehaw.org•Proton Mail Suspended Journalist Accounts at Request of Cybersecurity Agency
15·1 year agoIn a response to the backlash, Proton’s official account stated that the company did not intentionally block journalists’ accounts and suggested that the situation had been “blown out of proportion.” However, the lack of clarity surrounding the decision-making process has left many, including the affected journalists, seeking answers. Proton’s founder, Andy Yen, later announced that the accounts had been reinstated but did not clarify the reasons behind the initial suspensions or the subsequent reinstatement.
So did Proton mail act on their own, or did they get a gun to their head to disable? Because Proton continues to act holier than thou about privacy and only caving if there’s a lot of evidence. But here is ANOTHER example of hypocrisy.
Ah, so become the company that sells these background checks?
Back in my day, we could drink gasoline right out of the pump. If you were feeling ill, you just head over to the nearby asbestos wall and give it a good lick.
Then you go out and yell racist shit and put women in their place.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Microsoft to lay off about 9,000 employees in latest round [Seattle Times]
3·1 year agoMaybe I was stupid to believe that they’ll slow down the Xbox console to go extremely hard on Xbox/PC Game Pass and push to be the Netflix of PC games.
But these are software layoffs.

Yes.
Nextdoor is full of morons sharing their ring videos and then going, “Well my videos aren’t being shared online to Amazon because I checked the ‘privacy’ settings.”
