How are you seeing a reputation score?

Ignore the clock, it’s the timer thats important. That’s all the time clock is. a timer.

If you work 7 hours, you get paid for 7 hours. If you work 9 hours, you get paid 9 hours.

So shift is from 22:00 to 06:00. but the clock is going to skip 01:00 and go straight to 02:00. Numberline it.

When the clock goes back an hour, your shift is an hour longer. I can never remember which month was which. I was usually more concerned with keeping track of the minute than the hour.

Interestingly, I noticed that cellphones would repeat or skip the 01:00 hour, though that might be timezone dependent.

It used to be quite frequent, back before cellphones were common.

As for me, my new job is the first dayshift job I’ve had in 30 years. For me the only real effect of DST was that I would gain or lose and hour of pay. Either way, I always had to stick around till the next shift arrived. It’ll be nice to run on sunlight rather than moonlight, even if I am taking a 50% paycut to make it happen.

Sometimes it’s handy to be able to share larger files with just a link, but for the most part it’s just syncing folders on my desktop and laptop, and giving me access to those files my iphone. I don’t generally use it for off-system storage.

Mainly just Nextcloud. I have it setup pretty lean as most of it’s capabilities is just massive overkill for my needs. I mostly just have it handling file, calendar and contact syncing as well as it’s news reader.

I’ve largely ignored most of Proton’s offerings as it feels like they are trying to become Google 2.0. I lived through that once, that was enough. When Proton started they were very much “Don’t know who you are and don’t want to”. Now I’m not so sure what their ambitions are. Creepy vibes from them lately that remind me of Google.

Basically what you want is to turn the linux laptop into a router. Thats doable. I believe Ars did an article on a similar build a couple years ago.

It’s an old build based on an almost 10 year old version of Ubuntu, but quickly glancing through it, I didn’t see anything completely out of date. Version numbers will have changed and perhaps some package names will have changed but it will give you a starting point for further research. You won’t want to cargo cult this build.

I think the main difference is that your internet would be coming in from the wifi interface and going out the ethernet interface rather than the other way around.

Well, I’ve been using Ubuntu for the last 20 years (god, it hurts to say that) and only started playing with NixOS, 3 years ago.

Between the two I like NixOS better, but if I had to choose only one it would probably be Ubuntu. When things break, I know how to fix it. Usually without having to spend 2 hours of reading and trying to understand the documentation.

Not really. There are gps trackers that have a cell modem, used for tracking animals for research, but they are probably very expensive. Both to purchase and operate.

I’m sure there are flakes that can do that, but I just use the config file, adding things as I find I need them. Flakes weren’t really all that well documented when I first installed it so I never messed around with them. Out of box though, it was fairly decent for relatively simple needs. If I remember correctly, the graphical install could set you up with any of a half dozen different DEs out of the box.

One heads up. While NixOS is a Linux distribution, it is radically different design philosophy from every other Linux distribution I’ve ever used. In some ways better and far easier to setup and maintain, and sometimes, as headache inducing as Gentoo or Arch. Once you have it setup to your liking, though, it has proven incredibly solid and hard to break.

Basically hasn’t changed since KDE6 came out something like a year ago. I think the last change I made after that was when I finally added flatpak support.

I’ve been usingPrivate Email for the last few years. Run by NameCheap, I think. Got the account same time as my domain. No complaints so far. Haven’t heard anything troubling about them either.

It has a web ui if that’s your thing, but I’ve never used it.

I have 2 that I use regularly. PIA to unblock things on the internet (and change how things are logged) and Tailscale to access my home network remotely. I’m happy with both of them.

Well, there are 2 problems with banning weapons that I see

One. Weapons are dead simple to make. I can go to the hardware store and buy everything I need to make short range, single shot firearms, and this doesn’t even take into consideration how dangerous slings and sling shots can be when used as a weapon. Additionally, more than a few full auto sub-guns have been made by folks in their basements or sheds, with admittedly mixed results. Turns out that the magazine is actually the hardest part of a repeating firearm.

Functionally, it’s an impossible task. Weapons are generally the simplest of physics problems to solve. Just ignore safety and you’ve got t weapon.

Two. Lets say you succeed. Short term, what changes? A few less deaths, but overall crime goes up because the risks go down and you haven’t done anything to address the true causes of the crime in the first place.

Long term, you have even bigger problems if people from outside the community that has banned weapons, suddenly view you as weak and helpless. And this also discounts the possibility of your own community leaders suddenly deciding to attack in order to seize more power for themselves.

I grew up listening to Art Bell and still have my tinfoil hat. I believe that there are things in this universe that we don’t remotely even begin to understand. All manner of things and legends could be true at least in part.

But I’ve also grown up enough and seen enough to realize that 99% of so called supernatural or otherworldly things are either jokes, pranks, or misunderstandings of known natural phenomena. I’d hazard a guess that at least 2/3rds of the rest also have quite mundane explanations.

As for the rest, I am grateful that there are still things in this world that we still don’t understand. It makes things interesting.

Assuming it didn’t get cut off, it looks like you have a typo. That should be http:// not ttp://. That would cause your trouble on the Roku.

Personally, I use Hugo. Good for blog type websites.

No, not anymore, though I do prefer to purchase media (movies, albums and the like) on physical media. It then gets ripped to digital and the originals stored against future need.

I’ve had my trust broken a few too many times.

Text editors are a really personal choice and there are a million different ones. I use either Kate or Micro. Both are great for my use.
