Privacy@lemmy.ml•The insane amount of requests my LG tv has sent since last Friday
152·26 days agoYes but books require some energy remaining in the body after work and family. A tv is great for exhausted people after their daily slave job.
I read books on vacations simply because I have the energy and focus for it then. Rarely do it at home.

72·26 days agoWhen im forced to buy a new TV, I will make sure it works with no network connection at all, or I’m not buying it.
They have training for police in America?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Wayland Found To Be "Intrinsically Faster Than X11, But Not Necessarily More Efficient"
9·1 month agoIt’s better. Much better. If Linux desktops was still on X, it would feel and be incredibly dated. I know it works “fine” but has many limitations, which is why we needed Wayland in the first place.
Eh, yes? What the hell did you think AI and data centers are about?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it just me or i feel life is getting more difficult these days?
1·2 months agoI mean obviously not pick poverty but you can go down in salary and pick a job that is less stressful and which makes you happy.
The most well paid jobs are usually full of stress and horrible managers and colleagues.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it just me or i feel life is getting more difficult these days?
14·2 months agoI had that life for a bit but changed my job. You should explore your options. Get out before it kills your soul.
Move to a calmer city, get a job that pays less but allows you to breathe. Or anything. Just make changes.
Its not normal to feel like that and it’s your own choices that is doing it, probably a desire for money or status.

It’s about poverty, yeah. White people would act the same as black people if they lived in poverty. In fact, you see that happening in America too.
You have to give someone a chance in life or you end up with desperate people. I never understood the idea that poor people should just say no to crime when they have absolutely nothing to live for otherwise. That’s crazy.
It’s not even about skin color, not really. It’s about poverty and people not having a chance to get out of it. I would also commit crimes if I felt my life had no future and im white.
As a consequence, black people commit crimes and white cops become racist because they see that. But its not really about skin color if you look at the full picture.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•how do i prep for the digital surveillance crisis worsening?
31·3 months agoNot for me, and it’s my experience im talking about here. How can it be “difficult” to not use the internet? That’s a very low bar for difficult isn’t it?

Privacy@lemmy.ml•how do i prep for the digital surveillance crisis worsening?
66·3 months agoI was born without the internet and I can die without it too. Perhaps using some bank apps I guess. Some things are required. Most are not.
But sure, I would love if people could do something, but we never can.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•how do i prep for the digital surveillance crisis worsening?
253·3 months agoYou don’t have to use big tech chat apps, or social media. Or even any site with “age verification” (real id).
Just stop using it. I have no idea why people think they have to use these things.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I made an extension that bypasses online age verification
61·4 months agoIt’s horrible. I would also play along under your circumstances but if I don’t absolutely have to, I will not send any identification to big tech companies or online sites in America. I’m swedish and I don’t need to use any American sites.
I will give up YouTube, email, search engines… And replace them with any option without this bullshit.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Commodore announces Linux-based flip phone with ‘no social media, no browser’ — the Callback 8020 will be available in five retro colorways starting at $499, runs 99% of Android apps
5·4 months agoPeople don’t know this it seems. You actually have to give up something to gain some privacy. Can be money, can be features.
Most people still use Google while there is Kagi for like 10 dollars… Because they want privacy, but they need it to be free. :)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm only an adult because I'm 40 but I feel like a child. Is anyone as lost as I feel now?
2·4 months agoScary. Where I live, sweden, it’s 22%, and it’s mostly because immigration its so high.

Luckily we don’t need YouTube to survive on this planet. Or most Web sites even. If they force real id to use certain Web sites, I will just not use those sites. Easy.
