Most of the EVs being announced have 24/7 internet connectivity, which in itself is fine. However most manufacturers are depending on Google, Amazon etc. to provide infotainment systems (and I’m assuming smart car related features). Generally always connected and tech giant integration doesn’t go well for privacy. So are there any manufacturer not dependent on tech giant at all ? Or is tech giant integrations are fine since data is never (and never will be) relayed to cloud?

      lol tell me about it, however using that in USA is not really an option. Bicycle is option still not complete solution

    They appear to be completely behind supporting right to repair and providing schematics so you can do your own repairs as well. Additionally, efficiency appears to be their primary goal, which I would really like as a “daily commuter”.

      interesting, they still don’t have much info on infotainment/brain of car but right to repair is promising and generally means better approach. I’ll follow their progress.

    Even a lot of non EVs rely on cloud service for safety measure (Lane keeping assist, emergency braking comes to my mind first). There are more and more assist in vehicles in general. Seems like government and laws are pushing for it. So I don’t think it will stop in the near future (5-10 years)

    There’s obviously privacy concern but I find a lot of the automated system don’t even have manual override. Unlike plane autopilot where it can always be overriden by manual interaction as fallback. A lot of vehicles don’t have redundancy design like this so I see this is a huge problem.

      I wasn’t aware lane keeping and emergency braking needs cloud connectivity, wouldn’t that be hazardous (if internet connectivity is not available) ?

        Without cloud connectivity, it would presumably operate like a normal completely human controlled vehicle, so no capability would be lost.

      Wait does cloud lane assist exist in vehicles in the road now? What happens if the signal cuts out?

      To be fair, pilots undergo actual training and in the U.S. I think they have to get relicensed every so often. Drivers take a written test and then a single driving test and they’re licensed for the rest of their life, regardless of any new circumstances.

        Also autopilot on planes is way simpler, it’s just a compass and a few measurements of hight, speed etc and that’s basically it. There is no need for breaking at stoplights, pedestrians, emergency breaking and all that stuff.
